Conspiracy theories have long been powerful narratives that shape how people view the world. These stories thrive on fear, mistrust, and secrecy, often using a blend of symbols, codes, and strategic language. One historical figure who masterfully manipulated people’s perceptions was Hassan Sabbah, the leader of the Nizari Ismailis (Assassins) in the 11th century. Sabbah exploited symbols, rituals, and religious beliefs to control his followers' minds, convincing them to act on his ambitions. His ability to manipulate perceptions foreshadows how modern conspiracy theories manipulate people's understanding of reality.
